1. Create a Paper Trading Account

There are several out there but I recommend the following,

Schwab’s TD Ameritrade’s paperMoney, which uses the ThinkorSwim platform.

You are going to be buying and selling stocks with me all year until you get used to buying and selling stocks from an online broker. Because it is Paper (Play) Money, you will not lose anything if you make a mistake, or I make a bad pick. I will be using real money from my online account. Once you feel like you are confident making a profit with your Play Money, then and only then, can you join me on the other side using Real Money.

2. Get Familiar With the Interface

Even though you will be using Play Money, you will be buying and selling stocks when the market is open. This will give you the experience on how to place buy and sell orders in real time with a click.

3. Practice, Practice

I recommend at least practicing with me for 1 month, for 1 hour each day the market is open. Go online, place your buy trade, go to work, come back to see if you bought the stock, place a sell order that night, go to work the next day, come back, and to see your stock sold, and just like that, you made money!

Buy shares of Citigroup (NYSE: C) at market Tuesday morning and set a 25% stop loss. If Citigroup shares fall by 25%, we will sell it and declare it a loosing trade, but if she rises by 25% we will sell it and take the profits.
